2011 New Year, New Possibilities

Happy New Year!

I know I’ve been neglectful lately but I’ve been busy with school and life had thrown me quite a few curve balls, phew! But I managed to conquer it all and made it to 2011, still standing.

Here’s a run-down of what I’ve been up to:
1. I’ve completed my first novel
2. Acquired a new position at my job
3. Continue to keep hubby healthy
4. Looking forward to graduation in Jan 2011 with my MA Creative Writing degree
5. Have been accepted into MFA Creative Writing program for Jan 2011
6. Managed to continue to take care of my beloved pooches
7. Fought the common cold from totally consuming me
8. Thorough it all managed to celebrate 3 wonderful years of marriage

So you can see, I’ve been quite the busy bee.

Every year I’ve been known to fight the urge to make a resolution and inevitably I crumble and make one anyway. And of course, somewhere in the year, the resolution gets thrown to the side never to be accomplished. Well, not this year. I don’t have the urge to make any resolutions and by gosh I certainly won’t. Instead I’ve opted to make small goals for myself, ones that are more attainable.

Thanks to my wonderful healthcare doctor, I am officially on the road to conquering the weight loss game. While I’ve lost some weight, I’m not where I want to be yet but I can see the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel. There is one more weapon in my arsenal but I’m waiting for the doctor to get her hands on it before I can get it. With this extra help she and I are both certain that I’ll definately attain my weight goal and then I can be off the blood pressure medication, finally! I so look forward to that. Chalk this as one of my goals for 2011.

Next, I will be entering the academic world of the MFA degree and I know that like the MA, this will be torturous yet fun, but nevertheless, this is something I’ve wanted to do for such a very long time. I’ve proven to myself that I can conquer the beast of fear and I intend to continue to beat it into submission. My only dilemma at this point is whether to polish the manuscript I’ve completed or start something entirely new. I’m just hoping to figure this out sooner rather than later. You see, my ultimate goal going into the MA was to learn how to write a complete novel of fiction and adapt a fictional novel for the screen. I’ve accomplished the former goal. But then, nothing worthwhile is ever easy, right? right.

With that in mind, here are a few of the goals I have in mind for 2011:
1. Blog often
2. Keep up stellar grades in MFA
3. Continue to ignite and activate my imagination
4. Write, write, write
5. Maintain quality of life for entire family

For now these goals are attainable and if life should throw those mean curve balls my way, then I’ll do what I’ve always done as the highly favored and blessed child that I am, pray, muster the courage, and conquer. So, onward I go!

Namaste
